As a country that serves as an ideal tourism attraction with something for everyone, it is a natural progression for Malaysia to rise in the ranks among the Meeting, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) destinations.
The emergence of Malaysia as a major player in MICE is evident in the various high profile events that have been held here in recent times, such as the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) 2008, which hosted more than 3,000 delegates and 50,000 participants from over 90 countries.
Having made such encouraging inroads into the industry, we must not rest on our laurels but must constantly strive to improve ourselves. The government will continue to support and nurture the industry through the implementation of conducive policies and by encouraging more global events to be held here. The recent establishment of the dedicated Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) in December 2008 is testament to the government’s steadfast support for the industry.
I would like to commend Tourism Publications Corporation Sdn Bhd for their foresight and initiative in publishing this 3rd edition of Meeting Planner. This publication will no doubt serve as a much needed informational resource on MICE.
